Open Position: Flower Farmer
We are seeking a field crew member to participate in all aspects of producing the highest quality cut flowers, from seeding and transplanting to harvesting and conditioning. You will work alongside the lead farmer and occasional seasonal helpers.
During March-June and September-November, harvesting will take much of our time. During the extra-hot months of July and August, and for the winter season, we pause sales and focus on nurturing the plants and soil, propagating, and farm improvement tasks.
Be aware: Farming is HARD! Our farm and our product are stunningly beautiful, and we love working outside with mother nature. The work is also physically demanding, and we work in all kinds of weather: windy, rainy, muddy and cold, or very hot.
The Job:
Planting – transplanting in the field by hand and direct seeding
Cultivation – by hand and hoe
Pest management (IPM) – scouting, trapping and treating for insects, disease and rodents. We use only organic methods to manage pests
Maintain plantings – dead heading, disbudding, trellising, pinching, remove spent crops, apply compost, haul materials, broadfork, etc.
Harvest – maintain highest quality and consistency standards, apply proper post-harvest handling techniques
Maintenance – keep tools maintained and work areas clean; maintain and repair irrigation; wash harvest buckets

Requirements:
Minimum one full-season on a flower (preferred) or vegetable farm, or other fast-paced work environment such as a busy restaurant
Can work outdoors in any weather conditions with gusto and a good attitude
Can bend, kneel, lift, squat, and reach repetitively, work safely on uneven terrain, and can physically and mentally handle repetitive tasks
Good attention to detail and maintains consistent high quality outcomes
Self-motivated to tackle tasks and work independently
Reliable, hard-working, timely, and can respectfully receive and offer feedback
Dependable transportation
Schedule and Compensation:
This position is part time and year round; 20 hours per week
4 days/week, 5 hours/day: Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday preferred. Alternative schedules will be considered
7am - 12pm work days during warm season; 8am - 1pm during cool season, with some flexibility required
Starting pay is $18-23/hr, depending on experience
Employees are welcome to take extra flowers home
